What you're noticing
Water standing in the tub. A kitchen sink that gurgles. A toilet that rises when you flush. The usual causes:
- Hair buildup
- Soap buildup
- "Flushable" wipes, tampons, cotton and other toiletries
- Fats, grease and oils that cooled and hardened in the pipe
- Toys, jewelry and other things that went down by accident
Skip the store-bought liquid. Those chemicals can corrode your pipes, and the clog often comes right back a few days later.
How we find the cause
First question: is it one fixture or the whole house? If only one sink is slow, the clog is probably close by. If toilets, tubs and floor drains are all acting up, the trouble is further down the line, sometimes in the main sewer pipe. We check the other fixtures before we pick a tool, so we're treating the actual blockage and not just the drain you noticed.
What we do about it
Most household clogs clear with a cable machine. For larger sewer pipes we recommend hydro jetting: a hose with a special nozzle goes into the line and high-pressure water breaks the clog up and pushes it through, scouring the pipe wall as it goes. If a drain keeps clogging, we'll suggest a camera look at the line so you're not paying for the same fix twice.
Every drain cleaning call includes
- Clog cleared at the source, not just the fixture
- One free re-rodding of a sewer within 30 days of service (excludes earlier rodding for tree roots)
- Written flat-rate price before any work starts
- Charged by the job, never by the hour, and no travel-time charge
- Tarps down and shoe covers on inside your home
- Uniformed, drug-tested, licensed and insured crew
- Clean-up: we leave it as clean as we found it, or cleaner
- One-year warranty on parts and labor we supply
Had backup and they came out in half hour on a Sunday and got the blockage resolved. They cleaned up after themselves. Very very professional people. Would recommend Plumbing Doctor to anyone

Drain Cleaning FAQ
Should I use a chemical drain cleaner first?
We'd rather you didn't. They can damage your pipes and usually only buy a few days. A plunger is fine to try; past that, call us.
Snake or hydro jetting: which one do I need?
A cable machine handles most sink, tub and toilet clogs. Hydro jetting is what we recommend for larger sewer pipes and heavy buildup. We'll tell you which fits after we look.
What if it clogs again next week?
Our drain cleaning includes one re-rodding of a sewer within 30 days of service, excluding earlier rodding for tree roots.
Can you come out on a Sunday?
Yes. We're on call 24/7, holidays included.
Something leaking right now?
Call. A licensed master plumber picks up, day or night, weekends and holidays. You get a written flat-rate price before we touch anything.
